Obviously genre hashtags, while not required, are a very useful thing for PitMad (for those of you wondering what hashtags to use, see here). However, I'm wondering the best strategy for mine. My book falls firmly on the science fantasy line; it really doesn't feel right to categorize it as either sci-fi or fantasy, because in many ways it has fantasy applications with a sci-fi vibe. I am aware that there is a science fantasy hashtag (#SFY), and I did use it for #SFFpit. But I'm wondering if that would be the best strategy for PitMad, considering this is a more broad pitch event. I feel like if I went with SFY I could miss out on agents who do a search for either SF or F. Should I pick either SF or F? (When I query via Query Tracker, I usually select "Fantasy" on the genre selection tab, since they don't usually have science fantasy listed.) Would it make sense to use both? Or would it be safer to go with the broader spec fic tag?
For the record, my gut tells me to use both #F and #SF, but I also literally just joined Twitter in July, so I'm still learning the ropes on a lot of this and would love to hear the opinions of some more experienced pitchers. Thanks.
