So you're here. And you want to know how to create a good... NO. A GREAT Twitter pitch. Well there are several ways. But the easiest way I've found is very formulaic... And we all know from my blogs, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my formulas. (And YES, there is a Tips and Tricks Blog up for your perusal that is more in depth about Twitter pitching, so check that out. Making It Easier: Pitching Tips.)
But here's your basic formula for a quick primer... CHARACTER + PLOT & CONFLICT + STAKES + #/s.
Space-pirate Nyx Marcus discovers she is actually an AI/human-hybrid god. [CHARACTER] Now she must determine if she is woman or machine, risking her humanity [STAKES] to save her family from a Queen bent on oppressing the universe [PLOT & CONFLICT]. #SFFPit #A #SF #SFY #SO
The most intriguing pitches will include surprising little tidbits that make your story special. Does a dragon swallow your MC? Does your character get duped into carrying a bomb? Is your LI a vampire in disguise? Anything that you can surprise and hook with will create a starting point to build intriguing pitches.
Now get out there and pitch! We'll help you shine those baddies up for the next pitch event!
Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor!
***And the requisite disclaimer that all writing advice is just advice and never to be taken as the end-all of techniques. This is just one of many ways to write a pitch, and shouldn't be taken as the one-and-only way.***
